1. Why does John the Baptist immediately confess that he is not the Christ?  

2. What’s the significance of the Jews from Jerusalem asking John if he’s Elijah or the Prophet?

3. What does John’s response in vs. 23 teach us about John’s mission and Jesus’ identity?

4. What are the twin promises found throughout the Old Testament related to God’s saving work?  How does Jesus fulfill these promises?

5. What was the significance of John’s baptism?

6. What does vs. 27 teaches us about Christian discipleship?

2. How would you answer the two questions found in our passage: (1) Who are you? and (2) What’s your purpose?  How has the gospel transformed the way you answer these questions?

3. How does an understanding of the supreme worth of Jesus affect your day-to-day life?
