Series Title: Gospel Living in a Wicked World
Text: Philippians 3:17-21
Title: Sanctification continued…
Big idea: Sanctification happens as we fix our eyes on the things of the Lord.
1. Look to Godly ________________ and be a Godly example.
2. Look out for _________ teachers.
3. Look to your real __________________.
4. Look to your ______________ King.
5. Look to your future __________.
Discussion Questions:
1. Imitation of godly examples is a massive theme in Philippians (see 2:5-11; 2:19-30). What have we learned about Paul’s example in Philippians up to this point, and what might it look like to imitate him (and others like him)? Who are you an example to today, and do you want them following your example? Why or why not?
2. Who is someone you can start discipling? Who is someone you can ask to disciple you?
3. According to vs. 18, what is the reason for Paul’s command in vs. 17 to imitate him and others like him?
4. What do we learn about the “enemies of the cross of Christ” mentioned by Paul in vs. 18, and how do they differ from Paul and the church in Philippi? How does Paul respond to these enemies of the gospel and why?
5. Once again (see 1:27) Paul emphasizes the heavenly citizenship of God’s people. What does it mean to be a citizen of heaven and what does this look like in practice? See also Colossians 3:1-17.
6. According to vs. 20, what are citizens of heaven currently doing and why?
7. When King Jesus returns what will happen to God’s people? How does this fit with what we’ve seen already in chapter 3?
8. How does knowing that everything will one day be made subject to Christ (vs. 21) affect the way you think, live, and pray now? How can you grow here?
