Title: The Case for the Resurrection
- Why is this topic so important?
See 1 Cor. 15:1-4; Acts 2:22-24, 32; Acts 3:15; Acts 4:33; Mark 8:31; Mark 10:33-34; 1 Cor. 15:17-19, 32
- What’s our approach today?
- The “Minimal Facts” approach
1. Jesus Died by Crucifixion
See John 19:33-34
2. Jesus’ Disciples Believed that He Rose and Appeared to Them
P – _______
See 1 Cor. 15:10-11
O – ______ __________
See 1 Cor. 15:3-5
W – __________ ___________
3. The Church Persecutor Paul was Suddenly Changed
See Acts 22:4-5; Gal. 1:13; 1 Cor. 9:1
4. The Skeptic James, Brother of Jesus, was Suddenly Changed
See Mark 3:21; John 7:5; 1 Cor. 15:3-7
5. The Tomb was Empty
Four Common Objections to the Resurrection of Jesus:
1. The story of the resurrection developed much later (based on late sources) – time for myth/legend to develop
2. The story itself was made up (fabricated)
3. The story of the resurrection of Jesus was circulating during a time and in a culture that would have readily received it
4. Hallucinations
- Two closing arguments! The “No One Follows a Dead Messiah Argument” and The Empty Tomb + Visible Appearances=Slam dunk!
